Maternal Health Crisis & Black Birthing Support | MAAME Inc. Interview with Maya Jackson
Do you know that we are currently in a maternal health crisis? Women across the United States are dying from childbirth due to inadequate prenatal care and insufficient support during their birthing journey. Tune in as I interview Maya Jackson, Founder and Executive Director of Mobilizing African American Women Through Empowerment (MAAME, Inc.). Maya empowers Black, Indigenous, and other birthing people of color to navigate health systems, providing resources and support for holistic maternal health and wellness.
Maya became a volunteer doula to support mothers and families needing guidance along their birthing journey. As a mother of five, she has experienced childbirth in both a hospital and a birth center. MAAME was founded through her lived experiences and the concerns of her community. Currently, Maya serves her community as a full-spectrum doula, maternal and infant health advocate, childbirth educator, and lactation peer counselor.
