Urban Community AgriNomics: Growing Communities One Seed At A Time
Urban Community AgriNomics (UCAN) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded on April 29, 2016, by sisters Delphine Godley Sellars and Lucille Godley Patterson. In November 2017, UCAN finalized their User License Agreement with Triangle Land Conservancy (TLC), resulting in the creation and development of the Catawba Trail Farm. Since then, UCAN has donated well over 60,000 pounds of fresh vegetables and fruits through local harvesting and gleaning events sponsored by the Society of St. Andrews.
Partnering with 'Farmer Foodshare' and the 'Carolina Farm Stewardship Association,' UCAN proudly hosts monthly food distributions at the Catawba Trail Farm. Every month, community members are welcome to receive a complimentary box of North Carolina-grown produce.
UCAN values itself on: Creating opportunities for all people to have equal access to fresh produce and the knowledge of how to grow it themselves, Honoring and respecting the environment, Educating individuals on how to create gardens—especially for communities that have limited green spaces, Cultivating safe community spaces where residents come together to build relationships around agriculture, Collaborating and solidifying long-term relationships based on trust and inclusion.
